2022 Hodge Jr. Classic

The 2022 season is here, and the players couldn’t be more excited to get involved in the local competitions! The DAJT’s first event was held at the Dubuque Golf & Country Club for the Hodge Jr. Classic. The participants played in a little bit of rain but pushed through to post some good scores!

To kick it off Nate Obbink won the boys 16-17 age division with a 73. “It felt good to get back into competition. I put a lot more work in during the preseason than I have in previous years, so it felt good to have it turn out.” Ben Blockinger took second with a 76 and Charlie Becker won a scorecard playoff for third place against Will Sigwarth, both shot 80.

Ava Kalb won the girls 16-17 firing a 75 while enjoying her time on the course. “I just wanted to go out there, play good and have fun, it’s always nice to play with other girls I’ve been playing with for awhile, and we all have a good time.” Katelyn Vaassen finished second with a 76 and McKenna Stackis shot 79 for third.

In the boys 14-15 division Bock Mueller was locked in and won with a score of 73. “I felt like a stayed focused throughout the round and I really concentrated on making my putts.” Macoy Peyton shot an 84 to take second and Ben Thill grabbed third with a 100.

Elin Mueller came out on top winning the scorecard playoff against Addie Splinter, both girls shot a 43. Once Mueller got settled in, she knew she was ready for the competition. “I was really nervous this morning, but once I got to the course and started playing, I knew it was going to be a fun day.” Landry Rauen took third with a 46.

There was another scorecard playoff for first place in the boys 10-11 division, Michael Hamilton took the win with a 47. “The best thing was my chipping because I got them close to the hole a lot and playing with other people was fun.” Beau Reed took second also shooting a 47 and Andreas Skrocki shot 49 for a third-place finish.

Ella Schulte took the win in the girls 10-11 division shooting a 66. “Playing with the other girls was fun and I think my putting was the best part of my game.” Emily Tanny finished second with a 68 and Finley Rauen finished third with a 74.
