2022 Lacoma Classic
The sun was beating down on the Lacoma Classic and the competitors were on fire. Players posted great scores and many podium finishes were decided through playoffs.
In the boys 16-17 division Wil Sigwarth won with an even par, 69. “I hit my wedges really well today, I only hit two fairways with my driver, but my wedges made up for it.” There was tie for second place, Charlie Becker and Nate Obbink both shot 75, Becker won the scorecard playoff for the second-place plaque and Obbink took third.
In the girls 16-17 division there was a playoff for first, Ava Kalb and Katelyn Vaassen both shot 77. Kalb came out victorious after a two-hole playoff. “I was hitting my irons pretty good today, and throughout the playoff I just tried to stay calm and not get too nervous.” Vaassen took second and McKenna Stackis finished third with an 81.
Macoy Peyton took the win in the boys 14-15 division with a 73. “I had a tough range session before my round, but I came out on hole one and made a par to get my round started.” Tyler Skrtich finished in second with an 81 and Benjamin Thill got third, winning a scorecard playoff against Brayden Webber, both shot an 86.
In the girls 14-15 division Cece Ball was the winner, shooting an 86. Enjoyment of the game is Ball’s secret to success. “Staying positive the whole time and having fun on the course helped me play well.” Natalie Fangman took second with a 97.
There was another playoff in the boys 12-13 for first place. Reid Herrig and Cal Martineau both shot 38 and Herrig won with a birdie on the first hole. “I was a little nervous at first, but I was just trying to think about hitting a good shot.” Martineau took second and Bryce Carroll grabbed third with a 41.
Addie Splinter won the girls 12-13 division with a 45. Splinter’s consistency helped her get the win. “The best part was being able to hit my driver off the tee into the fairways.” Elin Mueller was a close second with a 46 and Eve Skrocki finished third with a 48.
In the boys 10-11 Michael Hamilton took the win with a 45. Hamilton credits his short game for his success. “When I was chipping, I was getting them close to the hole.” Beau Reed finished in second place with a 50 and Andreas Skrocki took third with a 53.
Ella Schulte was the winner of the girls 10-11 division, shooting a 58. Schulte was smiling the entire round, “It was really fun to play with a fun person and I had a good time.” Makenna Ball shot a 63 to finish second.
